No time to dash home and change before that hot date, leaving party or Christmas soiree? Hold up! There are plenty of ways your work-wear can be made bar-worthy without having to schlep an entire change of outfit home to the office. And let’s face it, a loo cubicle has never made a glamourous fitting room…
The golden rule to remember is PLAN AHEAD. Prepare what key items you need to bring into work with you and establish what you’re going to wear the night before and how the outfit can be modified so there’s no last minute freak outs.
A formal trouser or skirt suit can easily be funked up by whipping off the jacket and swapping the shirt for a pretty floaty blouse or spangly top. Alternatively, if your pins are you best feature, jump into a killer mini or micro shorts and liberally undo those top shirt buttons. Be sure to bring a super-chic clutch to to stash your phone, keys, lippy and purse in while your trusty tote remains under your desk for the next day.
A pair of heels are essential as is some serious statement jewelry so swap those studs for some swinging chandelier earrings and throw on a bold colourful necklace. A few quick beauty flourishes at your makeshift dressing table (AKA: the Ladies’ sinks) will have you looking fine in no time: freshen up with some wet wipes, add a slick of lip-smacking gloss, a hearty splash of eyeliner and you’re good to go. To save further time, paint your nails the day before. With nowhere to plug in those GHD’s, wear your hair up in a loose style so it can be easily brushed out for the evening. Finally, spritz on your favourite perfume and it’s time to hit the town.
It’s all about the details, fellas. Injecting some playful elements to your normal office attire will easily carry your look into the after dark hours. Think: colourful socks, a funkier watch and dressier belt. A black or charcoal grey suit always works better than navy or pinstripes in the evening. If you need to keep your blazer on, a neat slim-fit one will score you a pass over a boxier formal one, especially when combined with a skinny tie. Stone coloured chinos are always a failsafe smart-casual staple if you’re stuck, as is opting for a more elegant dressier shirt than your usual workwear one.
In terms of footwear, brogues or Oxfords are a cooler option than loafers or Derbys and will take you from desk to dance floor in one hot-stepping stride. Don’t forget to freshen up with a cheeky sneaky wash followed by a healthy dash of fragrance and deodorant then you’ll be ready for some night time fun!
